Nicki Minaj takes a turn behind the camera for the new video of her protégé Parker Ighile.
Minaj and Grizz Lee co-direct the clip for “Beneath the Silence,” a track from Ighile’s forthcoming mixtape “Young Dumb and 21,” which is slated for release this year. If you blink, you’ll miss the opening credit announcing Minaj’s new Pink Friday Films.
Watch the clip here:
Ighile is the first signing to Minaj’s recording label. The British-Nigerian singer-songwriter has already established himself in Britain as a talented producer. An 18-year-old Ighile got his first big break back in October 2009 when his co-production of “Oopsy Daisy” for Chipmunk (now known as Chip) reached No. 1 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart. He’s worked on an array of tracks, including “What Now" by Rihanna and "Do it like a Dude" for Jessie J, and teamed with the likes of Chip, Angel and, naturally, Minaj.
At the end of the “Beneath the Silence” video, Parker reveals a cut of "Remember Me", a single which carries a sound he has coined as “Progressive Afro Pop (P.A.P.)” or “Progressive Urban Pop (P.U.P.).” The release of “Young Dumb and 21” is stamped as "Coming Soon."
Earlier this year, Billboard previewed Ighile’s promo for “You’re Beautiful.”**
